Welcome!
The BioActinide Chemistry Group in the Chemical Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Nuclear Engineering Department at University of California, Berkeley, is a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers whose research on f-block elements is at the interface of chemistry and biology.
We study the coordination chemistry and metabolic properties of lanthanide and actinide complexes formed with synthetic and biological ligands, as well as the effects of heavy element exposure and contamination on different biological systems.
Our goals include:
Better understanding the coordination chemistry and toxicity mechanisms of f-elements.
Developing strategies for decontamination, remediation, and separation.
Probing new tools for the design of advanced immuno therapeutic and diagnostic agents.
